South Coast Farms in San Juan Capistrano has designated “U pick” days for their organic strawberry fields. Friday and Saturday, April 21-22, 2017, will be their next “U pick” days and it’s the perfect season for strawberries! They have the most delicious strawberries, bright and sparkly like champagne bites of berries in your mouth. It was a fun adventure for the toddler and educational too getting to pick berries off the vine and eating them. Their farmer’s market is stocked with fresh, colorful, and crisp fruits and vegetables. Had we driven, we would’ve bought more but, alas, we took the train.
If you do take the Amtrak to San Juan Capistrano, I’m going to save you the trouble and recommend taking an Uber or figuring out the bus route instead of attempting to walk to South Coast Farms from the station. There isn’t much shade, and it’s not the nicest neighborhood, not in terms of how safe we felt but the sights along the way; although, we did see a wild rooster and hen couple in a parking lot.
Look at all this celery. I’ve never seen such deep color on celery like this before. They look so flavorful. Next time, I’m getting some and making chicken soup.
